This section includes lesson plans and activities relating to the search for, and eventual discovery of, the Hunley. The Hunley mission was carried out in 1864 and, despite efforts commencing at the conclusion of the Civil War, the submarine was not found until 1995. Best-selling author Clive Cussler's team of archaeologists located the Hunley just off the coast of Sullivan's Island, outside of Charleston, South Carolina. Cussler, who has discovered over 60 shipwrecks, considers the discovery of the Hunley his most significant find, and the materials in this section will help you spread this excitement among your class!
